Growing to a mature height of 10 inches and a whopping spread of 60 or more inches, this vine covers a lot of ground. From spring to first frost this plant performs. Blackie is very heat tolerant and is grown in USDA hardiness zones 9-11.

Blackie Sweet Potato Vine has a vigorous growth rate with a trailing habit. This easy care vine is heat and drought tolerant. The foliage is heart-shaped and lobed and the vine does produce trumpet-shaped lavender to pale purple flowers, but plants are grown for their stunning foliage. Use as a border plant, groundcover and in mass plantings in the landscape. Blackie adds texture and foliage interest to any planting. In a mixed planting container, it can be used as a spiller, but its vigorous growth may overwhelm other plants. Also grows well in hanging baskets and window boxes and in all sorts of other combinations.

Blackie Sweet Potato Vine is an easy care, low maintenance vine. It performs well in full to partial sun. It has an average water use and tolerates most any soil type. An application of fertilizer or compost on garden beds and regular water-soluble liquid fertilizer on plants in pots will help ensure the best possible performance. Tired looking plants can be rejuvenated with an overall trim with pruning shears back or to keep the shape you prefer.

They can be grown as indoor plants in high light areas and will perform well in containers on patios and porches. Foliage is gorgeous all year round.
