- Height 6-10 Inches
- Width 24-36 Inches
- Use as a spiller when using in containers
- Beautiful foliage on this ground cover!
Illusion Emerald Lace sweet potato vine is probably one of the most versatile plants for the garden. Stunning in a container, where the foliage spills over the side, to serve as a fast-growing summer annual ground cover, sweet potato vine (Ipomoea batatas) can do it all. Illusion Emerald Lace sweet potato vine has a 36-inch spread and a height of 6 to 10 inches.
Related to edible sweet potatoes, Illusion Emerald Lace has been bred and is appreciated for its leaves rather than flavorful tubers. The plant forms tubers, which are edible, but pretty much bland and tasteless. As a reminder, use caution when eating ornamental plants because they could be treated with harmful pesticides.
Proven Accents Illusion Emerald Lace Sweet Potato Vine Care
Sweet potato vines are nearly maintenance free. They are somewhat drought tolerant and can be grown in full sun to shade. In shade, the foliage will have more of a chartreuse hue.
In pots, some sweet potato vines can be thugs. If you think the plant is getting too aggressive, it’s perfectly fine to snip off branches to rein in the vine. Fertilize according to label directions, such as for a container or for landscape plantings. Illusion Emerald Lace has average water needs, so water when the first inch of soil feels dry.
Proven Accents Illusion Emerald Lace Sweet Potato Vine Spacing
In the landscape, be sure to allow for a possible 36-inch spread. It may overtake smaller plants in the ground or in containers. If growing as a ground cover, space at least 1 foot apart. Don’t plant too many in containers because the plants may overpower their companions.
