- Easy to grow purple & black groundcover!
With stunning purple/black foliage, excellent tolerance of heat, and very easy care, this vigorous annual plant is a must-have for your landscape. Its mounding, trailing habit makes it suitable as a ground cover or for a container. Growing 10-16 inches tall and trailing up to 28 inches, this Ipomoea makes an excellent filler that works well in combinations. In other words, it is very adaptable.
Native to SouthEast Asia, ipomoeas love heat and humidity; they will remain more compact in cooler temperatures. This variety is resistant to disease. As a filler, pair ‘Sweet Caroline bewitched after midnight’ with coleus, cordyline, or geranium for a container filled with color and texture. You may also use it in borders, edgings, and mass plantings.
Bewitched After Midnight Sweet Potato Vine Care
Plant ‘Sweet Caroline bewitched after midnight’ in average soil in part sun to full sun. You will see brighter colors in full sun, but the plant will grow well in shade. It needs little care: deadheading is not necessary, and its water needs are average. Use a container with drainage holes to prevent soggy soil that leads to root rot.
You can overwinter sweet potato vines by taking a stem cutting and growing it indoors.
Bewitched After Midnight Sweet Potato Vine Spacing
One plant is good in a combination container as it will grow vigorously. You may cut back stems if you want to keep it smaller. In the landscape, space the plants 12-18 inches apart.
