Here is the chartreuse foliage annual that will make all the dark dramatic flowers and foliage in your shade or container gardens pop. Proven Accents Sweet Caroline Bewitched Green With Envy sweet potato vine is a vigorous addition to your borders, edgings, containers, hanging baskets or mass planting landscape with its lime green foliage that almost glows.
Native to Southeast Asia, Zones 10a to 11b, the frost intolerant annual makes or breaks your part to full shade garden. Plant out when all danger of frost has passed and it will give you an all season long show! In the deep South it can grow up to three feet in a week, with a more compact, restrained growth in cooler climates. Although it is in the sweet potato family, this foliar is bred to produce more leaves than tubers, and the tubers are tough and starchy in contrast to the sweet potatoes that are bred for their sugar content and flavor.
Bewitched Green With Envy Sweet Potato Vine Care
Average pH levels of 6 to 6.5 are easy to achieve with compost or leaf mulch and help to maintain even soil moisture, otherwise this foliage plant requires little more than your appreciation to give you season long viewing pleasure and make your neighbors “Green With Envy”. Aphids and thrips can pester your lime green foliage, so keep an eye out for these and use standard household pesticides available from your hardware store. Leaf spotting during wet times of the year can be addressed with a copper based fungicide application.
Deadheading is not usually needed, but pinch back or trim if it gets too boisterous with its less vigorous companion plants to keep your containers neat and tidy and attractive.
Bewitched Green With Envy Sweet Potato Vine Spacing
A mounding/trailing annual, give Sweet Caroline Bewitched Green With Envy 12 to 18 inches of elbow room in containers or in ground plantings to allow spread, can reach up to 30 inches wide with a mounding habit of 10 to 16 inches tall. Looks great along woodland edges or ringing shade trees. Appreciate Sweet Caroline Bewitched Green With Envy for its contribution to your shade gardens all summer long.
