We hear the name of Sweet Caroline and think of the song then see the name Raven and think of a dark haired beauty. And Ipomoea ’Sweet Caroline Raven’ is exactly what you get…a raven leafed beauty that enchants you into the garden. This is a great foliage plant that is great in combination planters or used as a groundcover. Shiny dark purple/black foliage that is beautiful and mysterious at the same time.
And even though it is a sweet potato, it really isn’t one for the dinner table. You could eat it once but no one will ever ask for seconds.
Sweet Caroline Raven Sweet Potato Vine Care
You can use this sweet potato in a large container as a spiller but it can overrun the other plants but don’t be afraid to tame her with a pair of pruners. ‘Sweet Caroline Raven’ is not bred for flavor but for her good looks.
Water and occasional fertilizing is all that is needed to keep this Ipomoea going all season long. It isn’t bothered by insects or disease but deer may find it quite tasty so a deer repellent is in order.
Sweet Caroline Raven Sweet Potato Vine Spacing
If planting it as a ground cover, space it 12-18 inches apart and it can spread up to 3 feet so stagger the planting to insure good coverage.
