Growing Zones
With its scented white flowers that contrast against its rich green foliage, the Purity Japanese Pieris really is a special shrub. Growing to no more than 3 to 4 feet, it is ideal for a border and for adding some spring interest to your garden. Flowering later than other cultivars, this Pieris japonica is perfect for extending your spring display.
Loved by birds and butterflies, Purity Japanese Pieris is also evergreen and can be used to add form and structure to the landscape. Thriving in partial shade, it is well suited to underplanting and more shady areas, either on its own or en masse. ‘Purity’ is best planted where its clusters of fragrant blooms can be appreciated.
Purity Japanese Pieris Care
Purity Japanese Pieris thrives when planted in partial or dappled shade. When it comes to the soil, ‘Purity’ prefers a slightly acidic and fertile soil that is free draining. Nevertheless, it requires a moist substrate to keep its roots cool. Fertilize with an ericaceous feed yearly after the flowers fade.
For a tidy appearance, you can remove the faded blooms. Once established, Purity Japanese Pieris rarely needs pruning. However, you can lightly trim it and remove any dead or diseased branches as required.
Purity Japanese Pieris Spacing
When mature, the Purity Japanese Pieris can reach a final size of 3-4 feet tall and wide. To provide good air circulation and help prevent any fungal issues, a plant spacing of 6 to 7 feet is advisable.
