Like all Rose of Sharon, it is a magnet for the bees and butterflies along with many other pollinators that you want to attract to your garden. As a deciduous shrub, it loses its leaves in the winter but rewards you with more blooms in the spring since it blooms on new wood.

Purple Satin Rose of Sharon are an easy to care for plant, growing in full sun for the best flowers, grows well in average soil and water as well as rabbit and deer resistant. It is hardy from Zone 5a – 9b which means it will grow almost anywhere you live! Very little pruning is needed except for a broken branch or to shape it since it blooms on new wood in the spring. It is a heat loving, drought and salt tolerant plant, making it ideal for almost anywhere.

Purple Satin can be used as a focal point in the garden, in a mass planting, as a screen or a hedge since it grows 8-12 ft. tall and 6 -8 ft. wide so it will give you the privacy you desire. When planting the new shrubs you should plant them 6-8 ft. apart, giving them room to grow upright.
