Every cottage or English garden needs a fantastic light pink rose. Queen Elizabeth Rose may very well be the most stunning pink rose you have ever seen. Introduced in 1954, this exquisite grandiflora rose is an almost thornless, continual-blooming shrub. These exquisitely pink roses are large, 4 inches across, with cupped, double flowers! The roses are offset by deep green, glossy foliage and make a fabulous cut flower. All of the above has earned Queen Elizabeth Rose a spot in the Rose Hall of Fame along with a place in countless gardens.
Queen Elizabeth Rose has a lovely moderate tea fragrance. The rose is disease resistant and very reliable. Queen Elizabeth is a vigorous grower and a great choice for mass plantings, as a focal point, or in containers. This beauty is hardy from zone 5 - 9.
Queen Elizabeth Rose Care
Queen Elizabeth Rose prefers full sun in a location with fertile soil that has adequate moisture. Make sure the soil is well drained. Queen Elizabeth rose will tolerate a range of soil pHs from acidic to alkaline. It is important to feed your rose plant using a liquid rose fertilizer once in spring and again in summer. Depending on weather conditions, roses appreciate thorough waterings throughout the late spring and summer. Be sure to water your Queen Elizabeth Rose at the base of the plant, avoiding water droplets collecting on the foliage.
Roses respond well to pruning to maintain their shape as well as prevent disease. Pruning prevents disease by increasing airflow and removing weak or damaged branches. In late winter, use clean and sharp shears on your Queen Elizabeth Rose. Prune back by about one-third, removing old canes and weak growth. In addition to maintenance pruning, deadhead spent flowers to encourage new blooms, being careful not to cut off new flower buds.
Queen Elizabeth Rose Spacing
Queen Elizabeth Rose will reach 5 - 6 feet in height and 2-3 feet in width. Space plants 36 inches apart.
