Growing Zones
This perennial hosta is proof that hostas are far from boring. Rainbow's End Hosta has glossy green leaves with large patches of bright yellow to white variations. It will produce spikes of dark lavender flowers in late summer. Hostas are primarily grown for their long-lasting foliage. Plant this short perennial in partial to full shade conditions in USDA hardiness zones 3 through 9. The leaves will grow to be 11 inches tall with 16-to-19-inch flower stems.
Rainbow's End Hosta spreads up to 21 inches wide in a mounded habit. This makes it a good choice for the filler role in pots. It’s also a lovely choice to plant along walkways, in between shrubs, and toward the front of border gardens. Hummingbirds are attracted to the scalloped bell-shaped flowers.
Rainbow's End Hosta Care
This easy to care for plant will grow in almost any average to fertile soil. It has average watering requirements but prefers moist, organic soils. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer after panting and when new growth emerges in the spring. Use mulch to help retain soil moisture.
Some gardeners remove the flowers to encourage more foliage growth, but this is not necessary. The leaves will turn a pretty yellow faded to tan in the fall. In late fall, they’ll flatten on the ground and become mushy. Cut them back to discourage slugs and disease. You can also wait until spring to cut them back.
Rainbow's End Hosta Spacing
Space plants 21 inches apart to give them room to spread and wow you and your garden visitors with their unique foliage pattern.
