Add color and excitement to your landscape with Ramblin' Red® Climbing Rose’s orange rosehips and beautiful long-stemmed, fully double, ruby-red blooms with complementing yellow centers. These vibrant blooms last from June through the summer and will fill your landscape with a fragrant, aromatic scent. The roses pop against the attractive dark-green, ovular, ornamental leaves that emerge in the spring. This climbing rose can reach up to 10 feet high and wide and is perfect for creating a statement wall or privacy screen, growing on a trellis, and for cutting flowers.
Hardy in zones 3-9, this variety is incredibly disease resistant and robust compared to many other climbing roses. Fast growing, this rose is sure to enrich your landscape soon after planting! The rosehips attract birds, and the flowers attract different pollinators, perfect for aiding other edible and flowering plants. With proper care, this rose should live to be about 20 years old and will increase in beauty and vibrancy every year.
Ramblin' Red® Climbing Rose Care
This rose will thrive in full sun and well-draining soil with no particular pH requirements. Once it has reached a decent height, install a companion plant at the base to add some greenery and foliage to the legs of the climbing rose. After planting, water your rose often, about every 2-3 days for about 6 weeks, to ensure proper root development and growth. Once established, water less, about once a week; stick your finger into the soil, and if it is dry, it is thirsty and ready for water! When watering, use the soaker attachment of a hose nozzle at the base of the plant, and avoid spraying leaves and blooms. Fertilize this rose twice a year with an organic rose fertilizer in the early spring as buds start forming and just after the flower production ends.
Without proper pruning, this variety of rose can reach a height of up to 20 feet. The older canes and wood of this rose produce new growth in the spring, so after the June bloom, prune back old canes to ground level to encourage new and more vigorous blooms during the following season. Throughout the season, remove spent flowers to promote continuous blooming.
Ramblin' Red® Climbing Rose Spacing
With a height and spread of 6 to 10 feet, plant this rose against a support structure with enough room to accommodate its mature height and width. Add smaller groundcover plants to the base of the rose once it has reached a height of at least 2 or 3 feet to aid in covering up its legs.
