Growing Zones
The Raspberry Smoothie Hibiscus Tree will add interest, height, and structure wherever you grow it. Botanically known as Hibiscus syriacus 'DS03RS', this Hibiscus tree has been trained as a single trunk supporting a dark green canopy. Showy, double raspberry-colored flowers will bloom from mid-summer to the first frost. The Raspberry Smoothie Hibiscus Tree blooms from mid-summer into the fall and grows to around 8 to 10 feet tall.
The tropical-looking Raspberry Smoothie Hibiscus Tree is generally left alone by deer and is rabbit resistant, making it perfect for a rural location. It is suitable for growing in zones 5 to 8 and will drop its leaves in winter. This hibiscus makes an ideal specimen plant, whether planted in a large container or directly in the ground.
Raspberry Smoothie Hibiscus Tree Care
The Raspberry Smoothie Hibiscus Tree is easy to grow and care for when it is given its preferred conditions of full sun and well-drained soil. Although it is considered drought tolerant once established, it will need regular irrigation for the first growing season or two. Mulch annually and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring.
The Raspberry Smoothie Hibiscus Tree is best pruned when it is dormant in late winter or early spring. Simply trim the crown to shape and remove any dead or damaged wood. If grown in a planter, more frequent irrigation will be required than when grown in the ground.
Raspberry Smoothie Hibiscus Tree Spacing
Over time the Raspberry Smoothie Hibiscus Tree can reach a height of 8 to 10 feet and a spread of 4 to 6 feet. Multiple plants can be spaced from 4 to 8 feet apart depending on how much clearance you would like between the canopies.
