The showstopper Raspberry Wine Bee Balm, or Monarda ‘Raspberry Wine’ perennial, displays gorgeous tubular flowers with deep red and purple shades, reminiscent of a classic red wine. This perennial features large, dark green leaves that look elegant and can even be enjoyed in a salad as they are completely edible, and so are its flower petals. Your flowers will bloom in early summer to early fall and will last a long time. This easy-to-grow perennial will reach a height of 24 to 50 inches and a spread ranging between 24 and 36 inches. Because of the plant’s sweet, tasty nectar, you can expect hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees to be all over it.

Native to North America, the Raspberry Wine Bee Balm has aromatic foliage that when crushed, smells like mint. You can use these leaves to create delicious teas. This herbaceous plant requires very little maintenance and is mildew, deer, rabbit, and disease resistant as well as drought tolerant. It has a rapid growth rate and upright growth habit. You can use these perennials in borders, containers, mass planting, and wildlife gardens.

Raspberry Wine Bee Balm Plant Care

Your Raspberry Wine Bee Balm will grow best when getting a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight. You can use humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil that is normal or clay-based. It will respond well to any pH level, so you can choose between acid, alkaline, or neutral. Your plant has average watering needs, just make sure to water it when the rainfall in your area is under an inch a week. In addition, you can use fertilizer in spring during its growth phase.

The most important thing to note is that this perennial requires good air circulation, so you must thin out its stems to boost airflow and help prevent disease. Cutting back the foliage after flowering will encourage new leaf growth and deadheading spent flowers will encourage new blooms.

Raspberry Wine Bee Balm Plant Spacing

When planting your Raspberry Wine Bee Balm perennial, we recommend that you leave at least 24 to 36 inches of space in between each plant.
