For a showy red azalea with a longer than most bloom time, the Red Demon Azalea may just be for you. Displaying a mass of bright red flowers from mid-spring through until early summer, this azalea will be a real focal point. Not only that, but its foliage takes on a lovely autumnal hue in the fall. Red Demon Azalea grows to around 4-5 feet tall, making it ideal for a variety of uses.

With its long blooming period, hummingbirds and butterflies will be all over this azalea.  Red Demon develops a mounding habit, which makes it ideal for growing as a specimen or as a low and informal hedge or screen. This azalea is a hardy shrub and is suited to growing in zones 4 through 7.

Red Demon Azalea Care

For the Red Demon Azalea to perform best, it should be grown in a partially shaded spot, where it will receive some protection from the harsh afternoon sun. As with all azaleas, Red Demon prefers neutral to slightly acidic, fertile soil that is well drained. If kept well mulched, extra fertilization is generally not required. However, azaleas can be fed sparingly in early spring with a formula for acid-loving plants. Regular and deep watering is required to prevent stress from drought and promote abundant blooms the following season.

If pruning is required, it should be performed immediately after flowering. Branches can be cut back to a leaf joint, removing no more than one-third of the volume using a sharp and sanitized pair of pruners.

Red Demon Azalea Spacing

When mature, the Red Demon Azalea can reach an eventual size of 3.5-4.5 Feet inches high and 3-4 feet wide. A spacing of 3 to 4 feet is recommended when planting this shrub out as a group.
