The Red Fire Dianthus adds bold color to a bed or border. This dianthus boasts cup-shaped flowers that have several rows of petals. The petals have irregularly scalloped ends, which create a feathery appearance. The plant is a prolific bloomer and will be engulfed in flowers during the spring and summer. Narrow, silvery-blue foliage provides contrast against the saturated red flowers.

Include the Red Fire Dianthus near the front of a mixed bed or a border. The beautiful flowers make a truly stunning mass planting. Dianthus works as a filler in a container. Plant the Red Fire Dianthus near a high-traffic area so you can enjoy its good looks and the clove-like spicy and sweet fragrance. This lovely perennial is deer resistant but supports pollinators for a healthy ecosystem.

Red Fire Dianthus Care

Dianthus plants grow best in full sun, so choose a location that receives at least 6 hours of light. This adaptable plant can handle various soil types, but prefers fertile, moist, and well-drained soil for the most robust growth. Keep the soil moist, but do not overwater or allow the soil to become soggy. Fertilize monthly to support a prolific bloom cycle.

Remove faded flowers to encourage more blooms. Trim spent growth to ground level in late winter.

Red Fire Dianthus Spacing

The Red Fire Dianthus reaches 8 to 12 inches tall and wide. Space plants 8 to 12 inches apart or grow one plant in a 12-inch-wide container.
