Growing Zones
Say goodbye to fussy red roses from the past, and hello to Red Flower Carpet Rose of the future! This rose is a dream to grow and works for almost any garden situation. Clusters of deep velvety red flowers with bright yellow centers cover this rose almost 10 months of the year. The flowers are fragrant and wonderful in bouquets. The leaves are glossy green tinged with burgundy.
This is a low-growing, compact variety that only reaches 2 - 3 feet high, while spreading to 3 - 4 feet. This rose is hardy to zone 5 and will go dormant in the winter. Its foliage is resistant to black spot and mildew and will not need to be sprayed or treated with chemicals. Use red flower carpet rose to cover the ground in front of taller shrubs and trees, to edge a garden path, to stabilize a slope, or to brighten planter boxes on a patio or porch.
Red Flower Carpet Rose Care
This vigorous rose thrives in full sun and requires at least 4 - 5 hours of sun per day. It is not picky about soil texture or pH and grows well in clay, sand, and silt types. Water regularly in the summer as it prefers evenly moist soil and will not tolerate standing water. To conserve moisture, add a dense layer of compost around the root zone. Fertilize in the spring with a well-balanced, slow-release formula.
Pruning this rose is easy. Trim it back by one-third in late winter and remove any dead or damaged canes.
Red Flower Carpet Rose Spacing
Space these roses 3 feet apart to cover the ground of a large area. They will take a few years to fill in. Provide 4 feet of space for plantings with a gap between plants. For container growing, choose a pot at least 24 inches in diameter to accommodate the wide rootball.
