Red Satin Tickseed, or Coreopsis PERMATHREAD™Red Satin, are easy-to-grow members of the sunflower family that yield velvety bunches of silky, ruby flowers with feathery petals and bright golden centers. Red Satin has delicate, vivid, green foliage held aloft by compact branched stems. With a mature height of 15 to 18 inches, these season-long bloomers are perfect for keeping your garden energized. The flowers are sterile, which means they will stay in bloom from early summer all the way to the first frost.

Created by Master Hybridizer, Darrell Probst, Red Satin Tickseed is excellent for attracting pollinators, and, since it blooms all season, it is an excellent late-source of nectar. Coreopsis is a low-maintenance, reliable plant that will come back year after year with minimal effort. It is deer and critter resistant and has a spread of 18 to 22 inches. They are a favorite of florists, and make excellent cut-flowers and last up to two weeks without wilting.

Red Satin Tickseed Spacing

Red Satin Tickseed is drought, seaside, and humidity tolerant, but requires average watering to maximize its potential. For best performance, you can fertilize your Red Satin Coreopsis with liquid plant feed that has low levels of nitrogen. It needs slightly moist, well-drained soil to thrive. An ideal pH for your tickseed is 6.0 to 7.0, or mildly acidic. In pots or containers, use peat-free potting compost. Your tickseed will survive in partial sun, but thrives in areas with full sun.

Be sure to provide your coreopsis with support, especially if you are planting them in windy areas. Red Satin blooms should be dead-headed to encourage more flowers, especially in late summer months. Red Satin Tickseed is vulnerable to aphids, thrips, and powdery mildew. It is important to watch for signs of pests and mildew by checking your plants regularly.

Red Satin Tickseed Spacing

When planting, your Red Satin Tickseed should be spaced 12 to 18 inches apart. This coreopsis is perfectly paired with thicker foliage plants, along borders, and in landscaping beds. It is especially beautiful in containers and pots with phlox or daisies. It will naturalize quickly and benefit from division every two to three years.
