For a burst of early season color, the Rene Michelle Azalea with its deep pink funnel-shaped flowers makes a smart choice. Azalea x Renee Michelle as it is also known, is a versatile semi-evergreen shrub that grows to around 2 to 3 feet tall. When given the right conditions, it is easy to grow and virtually maintenance-free.

The Renee Michelle Azalea has a natural mound-forming habit and is considered winter hardy from zones 6 to 9. It is perfect for growing either as part of a mixed border or for spicing up a foundation planting. Alternatively, you can use it to make a colorful and informal low hedge.

Renee Michelle Azalea Care

This striking azalea grows best in either filtered or partial shade. When it comes to the soil, it prefers an acidic substrate that is fertile, moist and free draining. To help it establish, water it regularly to keep the soil moist, but not overly wet. Fertilize with an ericaceous plant feed after blooming.

Lightly prune to shape after flowering with a pair of clean and sharp pruners. Mulch annually with organic matter to help conserve moisture and keep the weeds down.

Renee Michelle Azalea Spacing

Over time, the Renee Michelle Azalea can grow to 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide. A spacing of 3 to 5 feet apart is recommended for mass planting, depending on how close you would like the branches to knit together.
