Salvia Rockin Deep Purple is one electric salvia that is sure to demand an encore. If you are looking for a deep purple flower with continuous blooms on tall stems this award-winning salvia is for you. Growing in height up to, 30 – 40 inches with a spread of 24 - 30 inches Rockin Deep purple is great in both the landscape and in containers. This long-blooming salvia puts on a true performance from planting until the first hard frost.
Salvia Rockin Deep Purple is an easy care, drought tolerant, deer resistant annual that the pollinators just adore. Prized for attracting hummingbirds, bees and butterflies, this tall, upright annual is an excellent thriller for mixed container plantings in addition to its use in the landscape. Growing tall with an upright habit this salvia can be used as a border plant or in mass plantings in the landscape. This salvia is sterile so it will not set seed and that means it will just bloom, and bloom all season long.
Rockin' Deep Purple Salvia Care
For the best performance and non-stop blooms, plant in full to partial sun. Salvia Rockin Deep Purple grows in hardiness zones 9 – 11, is not particular about soil type but does prefer good drainage. It has an average water requirement. For maximum blooms water and fertilize regularly and Rockin Deep Purple will maintain maximum color and growth. Once established will tolerate drought. Plants drop lower leaves when stressed or without water for extended periods. To revive, give it a quick trimming by removing the upper 1/3 of growth. A little water and fertilizer and the plants will fill back in nicely. You can also trim to shape or decrease size anytime throughout the growing season and this will encourage new branches, create a more compact habit with even more flowers. Deadheading is not required.
Salvia Rockin Deep Purple is an annual except in frost free zones where it will act as a perennial. Plants can be brought indoors to overwinter. Place in a very sunny window and decrease watering greatly. Blooms will decrease and may stop all together but will begin to bloom again in the spring when placed in full to partial sun again.
Rockin' Deep Purple Salvia Spacing
Plant 18 – 24 inches apart in containers. For garden beds and grown in mass, plants should be spaced approximately 20 - 22 inches apart. When grown in mass or used as a bedding plant, individual plants should be spaced approximately 20 inches apart.
