For a cut flower that blooms in the late Spring, look no further than the Rocky Road Pink Spring Phlox. This hardy perennial is reliable, and will emerge year after year, to accompany other spring bloomers. With a small, bright pink bloom this subtle but beautiful flower will be a welcome addition in a landscape with showstopping flowers. It is versatile and can be used as a creeping ground cover, or for a pop of color within a landscape. It can even be planted within a rock garden.
Hardy in zones four through eight, this creeping phlox will return every year. It’s a quickly growing plant that becomes covered in its small pink blooms in the late spring. It attracts butterflies, and what truly makes this plant so great is its ability to withstand all types of weather be it a summer drought, or a wet spring.
Rocky Road Pink Spring Phlox Care
This phlox loves full sun, and this should be kept in mind when choosing an area to plant it in. As mentioned as one of its selling points, this phlox will survive in a variety of moisture conditions, but ideally it would like moist, well drained soil. Soil pH isn’t a concern with this phlox, and it’s even tolerant to salt, which makes it a valuable addition in places impacted by salt.
Deadheading isn’t necessary, though the Rocky Road Pink Spring Phlox will generally flower in the late spring each year. It will remain green in foliage for the remainder of the warm season, and can be pruned after it’s finished blooming.
Rocky Road Pink Spring Phlox Spacing
Rocky Road Pink Spring Phlox is a creeping variety. It will grow four to six inches tall, but should be placed 30 to 36 inches apart, due to its creeping nature.
