Rose Glow Japanese Barberry displays rosy-red foliage on a compact shrub that loves sun. The mottled leaves fill the nearly 5-foot tall shrub with varying shades of red for warm color. In fall and winter, red berries fill in for a little more color before the leaves drop in winter. This is a beautiful and unique shrub to plant for native birds and dramatic foliage. And deer tend to ignore barberry bushes.

Rose Glow Japanese Barberry reaches nearly 4 feet around, growing arched branches in a round shape. It grows slowly, however, so it needs little care. The shrub is hardy in the cold winters of zone 4 but takes heat up to zone 8. Planting several can give you a nice, red hedge or a natural-looking border. Even planting one Rose Glow before green plants in your garden, like boxwood, provides a stunning color contrast.

Rose Glow Japanese Barberry Care

Place Rose Glow Japanese Barberry in full sun for best health and color. The shrub needs regular watering, at least weekly. Give it a little more water in extreme summer heat. The shrub needs little pruning, at most once each spring. If growing Rose Glow shrubs in a formal hedge, you might need to prune to shape a couple of times a year. Add mulch around the base of the barberry to help retain moisture in the soil.

Rose Glow Japanese Barberry Spacing

Enjoy a natural but dramatic red hedge with Rose Glow Japanese Barberry. Place each shrub just under 4 feet apart from center to center to give them room to eventually grow together.

Plant arrived in good health and looks good. Smaller than anticipated, but that's nothing to knock.
