The Rosebud Azalea is a stunner with trumpet-shaped double rose-like flowers that bloom in mid-May. The hose-in-hose flowers have a silvery pink color, making this plant a well-loved favorite with many gardeners. This Azalea is a prolific bloomer, and the shrub will be covered in flowers during the peak of the bloom cycle. The stunning flowers are complemented by glossy green foliage with rounded edges.
This upright, mounded shrub will do well in borders, hedges, mass plantings, or containers. Feature in a mixed perennial bed for a burst of color and dependable greenery. The Rosebud Azalea is native to North America, so it requires very little care once acclimated. The beautiful blooms will attract pollinators, like butterflies and hummingbirds. Grow the Rosebud Azalea as a perennial in USDA zones 6 through 8.
Rosebud Azalea Care
The Rosebud Azalea will do best in an area with morning sun and afternoon shade. Bright sun supports healthy growth, but too much can limit growth, so find a spot with full sun to part shade. Use rich, acidic soil that is moist but allows for good drainage. This shrub will need water weekly or when the top few inches of soil feel dry.
Feed this plant using a slow-release fertilizer in the spring. You can use an acid fertilizer if grown in neutral or alkaline soil. Remove dead or damaged growth, but pruning is not generally necessary as this plant naturally maintains a nice, rounded shape.
Rosebud Azalea Spacing
This upright, mounded shrub will grow 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. Space Rosebud Azalea plants 2 to 3 feet apart to create a low hedge or dense mass planting.
