For a tough, low-growing plant with outstanding multi-season interest, consider the Rosy Cheeks Sedum. The foliage is an attractive two-toned green and purple. The rosy-pink flowers appear from mid to late summer and cover the plant. Pollinators like butterflies enjoy the blooms, which are also useful as cut flowers or can remain on the plant to add some winter interest to the landscape.

The fleshy leaves of the sedum store moisture, so this plant is extremely drought tolerant once established. It resists rabbits and tolerates heat and salt, so it can thrive where many other perennials would suffer. The low-growing, spreading habit of Rosy Cheeks fits well on slopes or banks and in rock gardens. Grow this sedum around tough, yellow-flowered perennials to create a striking display.

Rosy Cheeks Sedum Care

Rosy Cheeks Sedum is exceptionally easy to care for. It prefers a site with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily but is not picky about soil pH or fertility. Good soil drainage is critical, but this plant is also salt tolerant. If the soil is too rich, sedums tend to be lanky and floppy. This sedum has average-to-low water needs.

There is no need to deadhead or prune Rosy Cheeks Sedum during the growing season, and any cutting during the summer could delay or prevent bloom formation. Cut the sedum back in early spring by removing old, dead plant material. New growth will appear from the ground as rosettes at this time.

Rosy Cheeks Sedum Spacing

Rosy Cheeks Sedum forms a low, mushroom-shaped mound. It has a height of 8 to 10 inches and a spread of up to 2 feet. Plant this sedum about 20 inches from other plants.
