For a tough, yet attractive groundcover, why not try this Royal Purple Lily Turf? An evergreen perennial, Liriope muscari 'Royal Purple' not only produces lush dark green foliage but also striking purple flower spikes in late summer. Forming neat clumps, ‘Royal Purple’ grows to around 18 inches high and can cope with a wide array of growing conditions.
Unbelievably robust, Royal Purple Lily Turf is not deterred by rabbits or deer and generally grows disease-free. It is suitable for growing in zones 5 to 8 and requires little care. Native to parts of Asia, this Liriope is ideal for edging a lawn or lining a path. It looks particularly impressive when grown in large swathes or as an extended ground cover.
Royal Purple Lily Turf Care
Best grown in full or partial sun, the Royal Purple Lily Turf can also tolerate full shade. It prefers moist, free-draining, and fertile soil, and once established can cope with dry periods. Although not essential, it can benefit from an application of a balanced fertilizer in early spring. Frequent irrigation for the first year is advisable to help it establish.
Royal Purple Lily Turf is wonderfully low maintenance. All it needs is a shearing or mowing on a high setting in early spring.
Royal Purple Lily Turf Spacing
When mature, Royal Purple Lily Turf can reach a final height and spread of 18 inches. When planting in a swathe or a group, you can space this perennial 15 to 18 inches apart.
