Enjoy stunning seasonal color from summer into fall with the SALUD™ Embers Sneeze Weed or Helenium autumnale. Large daisy-like flowers have a golden-brown cone that adds texture and is surrounded by reddish-orange petals with sunny yellow tips. The petals have an ombre fade that adds even more visual interest to these already intriguing blooms. Medium-green, lance-shaped foliage gives the plant a full and attractive form, even out of bloom.
Use this heat-tolerant perennial in beds, borders, mixed plantings, and containers. While the large, colorful blooms look lovely and lively in a landscape, trim the stems to display these beauties indoors. The long-lasting flowers make a bold solo arrangement or add color to a mix of seasonal blooms. The flowers of the SALUD™ Embers Sneeze Weed attract pollinators, but are largely resistant to deer and rabbits. Grow this sneezeweed in zones 4 through 9.
SALUD™ Embers Sneeze Weed Care
Plant the sun-loving SALUD™ Embers Sneeze Weed in an area that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight. Plant sneezeweed in average-to-fertile soil that is moist and well drained. These plants prefer consistent moisture, so water weekly and apply a thick layer of organic mulch to retain soil moisture. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring.
Remove spent flowers and cut back leggy growth by early to mid-summer to create a bushy and dense plant. Cut back no more than one-third of the growth at a time.
SALUD™ Embers Sneeze Weed Spacing
SALUD™ Embers Sneeze Weed reaches 14 to 16 inches tall and 12 to 14 inches wide. Leave 14 to 16 inches between plants when creating a continuous or mass planting.
