A spicy red variety of the popular native plant, Sassy Summer Sangria Yarrow features rich red blooms with a tiny speck of yellow at the center. This saturated red and yellow color scheme is hard to come by in perennials, which makes this a priceless addition to the perennial garden. Sassy Summer Sangria is a stand-out variety, but it is similar to other yarrows in its hardiness and low maintenance. If you’re looking for a dependable, low-maintenance perennial that can withstand heat and drought while remaining colorful in the landscape, Sassy Summer Sangria is the right pick!
The crimson flowers of Sassy Summer Sangria make long-lasting cut flowers, and add texture and vibrancy to bouquets – just like they do to garden beds. Yarrows make beautiful additions to wildlife, pollinator, prairie, wildflower, and naturalized gardens. Birds and butterflies love these flowers! They also look fabulous in structured landscape settings with grasses, green foliage plants, groundcovers, and other perennials.
Sassy Summer Sangria Yarrow Care
Yarrow is a native wildflower in North America, and is a dependable perennial in Zones 3-8. This is one of the lowest maintenance perennials you can find. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil to get the most out of this colorful variety. Fertilization is not required for growth or bloom; however you can apply a layer of compost annually if desired. Additional irrigation is not required after this perennial is established, unless there is extreme drought.
There’s not much you need to do to keep Sassy Summer Sangria looking great. Cut the plant back by half after the first flowers fade to get another set of blooms in late summer. Cut it back again in early spring to allow new growth to take off.
Sassy Summer Sangria Yarrow Spacing
A hardy and vigorous grower, this variety can grow up 3’ high and over 3’ wide. Give your yarrow 3’ of space if planting in a wildflower, prairie, or naturalized garden. If planting into a more structured landscape, provide 3.5’ feet of space from other plants.
