Satin Doll™ Blush Windflower is a dainty variety of the late summer blooming favorite of Anemone. The blush pink flowers bloom on compact plants that stay under 2 feet. This shorter size is great for the front of a garden planting or used in containers as a mixed planting. Using Windlower as a filler looks stunning. Since Satin Doll blooms late in the summer it can be used to bridge the gap in perennials that often occurs before other shrubs and trees show their fall colors.
Anemones are deer and rabbit resistant and provide nectar for bees and hummingbirds alte in the growing season. The flowers are long lasting either on the plant or in a vase. The lovely dusky hue of Satin Doll™ makes a great contrast to other brighter green foliage colors. This plant would be lovely planted with late season Asters and Shasta Daisy for a truly Cottage Garden look.
Satin Doll™ Blush Windflower Care
The range of hardiness zones for Windflower is broad. Most gardens can grow Anemones successfully. Gardeners in colder zones (4-6) may need to keep these herbaceous perennials well mulched through the winter. Planting Windflowers is very simple. They tolerate a range of soil from slightly acidic to alkaline. Full sun to part shade is fine. Well drained, moist soil is a must for them to bloom to their fullest.
Fertilizing perennials once a year is only needed if the growth or blooming has decreased. Feeding with a well balanced, slow release food late in the spring as the new growth appears will give Windflowers their best life.
Satin Doll™ Blush Windflower Spacing
Satin Doll™ Blush Windflower stays very petite, growing 9-16 inches tall and 16-20 inches wide. The spacing needs to be 18 inches on center when Windlowers are planted in a large group. When container growing this perennial, pots of at least 16 inches in diameter will work for specimen planting.
