Sea Green Juniper is an evergreen shrub that adds lovely greenery to a landscape and requires very little care. The feathery scale-like Kelly green foliage deepens into a dark green during the winter for a dramatic appearance. Juniperus chinensis is a quick-growing, spreading conifer shrub with arching branches. The foliage has a pine scent that will waft through the air on warm summer days.

This Juniper is a mid-size shrub with an upright growth habit. At 4 to 6 feet tall, use this shrub as a hedge or groundcover. The spreading branches make this plant a great choice to cover an embankment or uneven area. The green needle-like foliage provides a wonderful contrast when grown in a rock garden. Mature plants will produce cones that resemble light blue berries in the fall. This plant grows as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.

Sea Green Juniper Care

Sea Green Juniper needs full sun for the best result, but this plant can live in areas with some shade. Juniper plants require consistent moisture, so water when the top few inches of soil dry out for the first growing season. This plant is drought-tolerant once established and will not need as much attention, although water during a dry spell. Soil should be well-drained and slightly acidic to slightly alkaline.

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer each spring. Prune this Juniper to maintain its shape or size or let it keep its natural look.

Sea Green Juniper Spacing

Sea Green Juniper has an upright and spreading growth habit with gently arching branches. This evergreen shrub will grow 4 to 6 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. Create a hedge by spacing plants 4 to 6 feet apart.
