This compact Holly is the border plant you’ve been searching for. Shamrock Holly, Ilex glabra 'Shamrock, develops bright green new foliage in the spring. Its rich green mature foliage is accented by black berries all winter. It is very adaptable and easy to care for.
New foliage starts growing in the spring and is bright green. Mature foliage is a luscious green and in the winter, it is paired with black berries. It has a dense rounded growing habit and will reach a height of up to five feet tall and wide. This dwarf evergreen is bird friendly and has year round interest. Use for planning your hedges or as a border plant. It does well when used for foundation planting and will thrive when mass planted.
Shamrock Inkberry Holly Care
The Shamrock Inkberry Holly will require a male inkberry to produce berries. Plant in full sun to part sun. Water needs are average. It can tolerate all soil types and various moisture levels. Soil should be well drained for best results. During the first season, water regularly and deep. Once established, it is drought tolerant. Fertilizer should be applied in the spring before new growth starts to appear. Pruning is not necessary but can be trimmed to shape.
