Growing Zones
After a long winter, it’s great to see bright blossoms, and the Show Off Forsythia does not disappoint. Starting in early spring, bright yellow flowers pop from the ground up to the tips of the stems. These stems of flowers are welcomed by many early rising pollinators. Dark green foliage follows the flowers after blooming. This tall shrub has been improved upon previous varieties. A showy choice for early spring cut flowers.
This deciduous shrub, originating from Asia is hardy in zones 5-8. Show Off Forsythia is a great plant to use as a specimen for mixed borders, foundation plantings, and compact hedges. The Forsythia prefers moderately moist soil, but can tolerate short periods of drought. A good plant for gardens that may host the occasional deer, as Show Off is deer resistant.
Show Off® Forsythia Care
Plant Show Off Forsythia in an area that receives at least part-full sun, at minimum 4-6 hours a day. Water well after planting and until established, and then as needed. Use a slow release tree and shrub fertilizer in early spring. This Forsythia tolerates city conditions and is air-pollution tolerant. It prefers a good loose soil, but will do well in any soil conditions.
After blooming is the best time to prune the Forsythia. Remove old wood or diseased stems, or cut back completely. After the shrub is finished blooming is also a good time to do any shape pruning or hedge trimming.
Show Off® Forsythia Spacing
Show Off Forsythia reaches 5-6 feet tall and wide, be sure to allow it the proper space it needs to be a stand out in your garden. If planting as a hedge, consider spacing them 3-4 feet apart for a tight and compact showy spring hedge.
