Showpiece™ Purple Fragrant Shrub Rose delivers old-world, richly fragrant purple blooms on a modern, compact shrub. It stays around 2–4 feet tall and 2–4 feet wide. The flowers are double and saturated and rebloom from spring until frost. Compared with other scented purple roses, this one is bred for stronger disease resistance and is sold on its own roots, which helps it recover more reliably after winter dieback. We use it as a “walk-by and smell it” rose that still behaves in a small bed or a large pot.
Rosa × ‘Noa11356’ is a deciduous shrub rose with an upright habit and glossy green foliage that looks clean even when the plant is loaded with blooms. It is “self-cleaning” which means spent petals drop without deadheading. Use it as a low hedge along a path, a repeating accent in a mixed border, or as a featured container plant where fragrance matters most. Although disease resistant, Showpiece™ Purple benefits from good airflow and sun to keep foliage at its best in humid summers.
Showpiece™ Purple Fragrant Shrub Rose Care
Grow Showpiece™ Purple Fragrant Shrub Rose in full sun to partial sun, aiming for at least 6 hours of direct light for the heaviest bloom and best disease performance. Plant in rich, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic pH (about 6.0–6.5) and incorporate compost at planting for steadier moisture and nutrients. Avoid tight, waterlogged spots, because roses resent soggy roots and can develop stress-related problems.
Water deeply at the base as the plant establishes. Afterward, shift to thorough soakings when the top couple inches of soil dry; consistent moisture during bloom cycles helps keep flowers coming. Feed with a controlled-release rose fertilizer in early spring and again in mid to late summer if your growing season is long. Showpiece™ Purple will drop leaves and rest in winter, then push new canes in spring.
Prune in late winter or early spring, cutting back to shape and to encourage vigorous new flowering shoots. Many gardeners reduce shrub roses to roughly 10–12 inches to reset the plant for heavy bloom. Remove any dead or crossing canes to improve airflow, and trim lightly after a flush for a tidier outline. In colder zones or exposed sites, a winter mulch over the root zone helps protect the crown, and because it’s own-root, it can regrow true even if winter knocks it back.
Showpiece™ Purple Fragrant Shrub Rose Spacing
Space each shrub about 3 feet apart for a filled, continuous line, or give 4 feet if you want each shrub to show its natural shape with less pruning. For containers, use a 20–24 inch pot with a quality mix and adopt a consistent watering routine, since roses in pots dry faster in heat.
In the landscape, pair Showpiece™ Purple with catmint for a cool-toned, long-blooming edge and weave in agastache nearby to echo the pollinator energy without competing with the rose’s fragrance. For a softer, romantic layer, add phlox a little farther out to carry color when the rose is between flushes. In containers, underplant with alyssum and tuck in coleus to frame the purple blooms with contrasting foliage.
