Sky Pencil Japanese Holly, Ilex crenata ‘Sky Pencil’, is a low maintenance evergreen shrub, with a narrow, columnar form. Works well for tight spaces. Can be pruned to emphasize its columnar form for a more formal look. Uses for this versatile shrub includes container plantings, privacy screen or accent plant. Works well as a formal hedge where there is limited space. Leaves are more like boxwood than more traditional hollies.

Plant in well drained soil and water regularly to establish and then weekly or more often during periods of drought or extreme heat.

Space 3 to 4 feet apart. For a formal hedge, plant 2 ½ to 3 feet apart, measure from the center of each plant.
