Weigela is a versatile shrub and Snippet Dark Pink Weigela (Weigela florida) fits the bill wherever you want stunning color in a small package. Reaching no more than 2 feet high and wide, Snippet Dark Pink is a gorgeous filler in containers or empty spots of your garden. You can plant a group of the weigelas in a mass or as a groundcover for a carpet of low-growing green leaves below dark pink flowers. The weigela keeps blooming from spring through summer in most conditions.
If you need a low border in your yard or edge to your garden, plant a row of Snippet Dark Pink Weigela shrubs. Or place one or more in a container to serve as a filler around taller plants. The dark pink trumpet-shaped flowers attract hummingbirds, another bonus of this pretty and versatile weigela. Its dwarf size and neat mounded shape make this a weigela you can — and should — plant in any space that needs a colorful spring and summer filler. Deer and rabbits should ignore the plant.
Snippet Dark Pink Weigela Care
Snippet Dark Pink Weigela grows and flowers best in full sun of at least 6 hours a day and up to 8 hours. It is cold hardy to zone 4 and can tolerate heat up to zone 8, ensuring its spot in gardens around the country. Be sure to place your weigela in well-draining soil (or potting mix in a container) and water it regularly, especially in its first year of growth. If you like, add a balanced, slow-release fertilizer around the root zone in spring. The shrub needs little other care, just a light prune for shape as leaf growth appears each spring and removal of oldest or dead branches every few years.
Snippet Dark Pink Weigela Spacing
With its small size, you can squeeze this prolific bloomer into nearly any space in your garden or containers. If you want a row or border effect, space Snippet Dark Pink Weigela shrubs about 1 to 2 feet apart from one plant's center to the next.
