Growing Zones
For a striking climber with massive blooms, try the Snow Queen Large-Flower Clematis. As its name suggests, it develops stunning white and mauve flowers up to 7 inches across. With a mature size of around 7 to 10 feet tall, it is perfect for growing up a structure. Snow Queen flowers from late spring to early summer and again in early fall for a long bloom display.
The contrasting green foliage of the Snow Queen Clematis is thankfully resistant to both deer and rabbits, making this plant suitable for rural and urban locations. Its climbing habit means it is ideal for growing up an obelisk or arbor or training on a wall. This clematis is suitable for growing in zones 4 to 8.
Snow Queen Large-Flower Clematis Care
The Snow Queen Clematis performs well in full sun to part shade. A fertile, moist and well-drained soil will help support its growth and prevent its roots from becoming overly wet. Water when the top of the soil is dry to keep it moist. A balanced slow-release feed applied in spring will help promote the best blooms.
The Snow Queen Clematis falls into group 2 when it comes to pruning. Lightly prune in late winter and after the first flowers fade, cutting back to a healthy pair of buds. Mulching with organic matter will help reduce moisture loss and keep the roots cool.
Snow Queen Large-Flower Clematis Spacing
Over time, the Snow Queen Large-Flower Clematis can grow to 7 to 10 feet tall and 3 to 6 feet wide. When planting more than one specimen, a spacing of 4 to 6 feet will allow this clematis to spread and thrive.
