The Snowbelle Mockorange puts on an impressive display when in bloom, and provides color and visual interest for the rest of the growing season. Also known as Philadelphus 'Snowbelle', this shrub features white double flowers that create an ethereal cloud-like appearance. The blooms are also fragrant, giving off a lovely orange scent. The flowers are often most aromatic in the evening. The Snowbelle Mockorange is a prolific bloomer, so this shrub will be engulfed with flowers when it blooms in late May or early June.
The Snowbelle Mockorange grows in zones 4 through 8. Its dense, rounded form works well in a smaller space. This shrub is a natural focal point when blooming and forms as a stunning flowering hedge. The medium green foliage is barely noticeable when the shrub is blooming but provides dependable color throughout the summer once the flowers fade.
Snowbelle Mockorange Care
Full to partial sun is needed for the Snowbelle Mockorange to thrive and set plenty of flowers. This shrub is adaptable in terms of soil, but rich, well-drained soil with an acidic to neutral pH is best. New shrubs need consistent moisture but should never sit in soggy soil. Established shrubs demonstrate some drought tolerance but still prefer water during a dry period. Fertilize the Snowbelle Mockorange in late spring using a balanced plant food.
Prune Snowbelle Mockorange shrubs after the flowers fade. This shrub blooms on old growth, so pruning too soon will limit the amount of flowers. Trim branches above a bud, making a diagonal cut. Extremely overgrown shrubs can be cut back hard in the spring, but this will eliminate flowers that year; the shrub will come back healthier and better the following year.
Snowbelle Mockorange Spacing
The Snowbelle Mockorange is a small variety that stands 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. Create a hedge or continuous planting by spacing these shrubs 4 feet apart. An 18-inch container can accommodate one shrub.
