The saying “ fresh as a Daisy” applies to this variety of Shasta Daisy more than any other. Snowcap Shasta Daisy is a compact variety that withstands summer downpours and windy days with less staking than its taller, more leggy cousins, The brilliant white and yellow flowers can be deadheaded regularly to promote a longer blooming time. The fresh green of the shorter stems make the ideal contrast to other summer blooming perennials.
The overall compact growth habit makes for a sturdy plant at 12-15 inches tall and 9-15 inches wide. The cut flowers last in a vase and are a familiar addition to any summertime flower arrangement. Shasta Daisies are deer and rabbit resistant and are attacked by very few diseases. They will grow in just about any soil and only need a quick cutback to the ground in the fall.
Snowcap Shasta Daisy Care
Shasta Daisies grow best in a neutral pH of 6.5 - 7.0, but will tolerate a little more acid or a little more alkaline soil. They need very little extra irrigation after being established in the garden. A slow release, balanced fertilizer at the start of new growth will keep Snowcap standing tall and blooming all summer. Full sun with some shade either in the morning or late in the afternoon is the best spot.
Some flowering perennials need to be pitched back on a regular basis to stay nice and compact. Snowcap Shasta Daisy does this for you. Its naturally compact and multibranched form needs very little maintenance during growth. Regular deadheading will promote flowers to keep blooming.
Snowcap Shasta Daisy Spacing
Shasta Daisies benefit from a close spacing while planting. 10 -12 inches on plant centers will allow the plants to help each other stay upright with very little staking needed. Mass plantings of Snowcap Shasta Daisy are stunning and at the same time refreshing to look at on the hottest of summer days.
