It may look like a winter storm blew through after the Snowflakes Moss Phlox begins to bloom. This hardy plant is a heavy bloomer and will be consistently covered in white flowers throughout the spring. The tiny flowers have five heart-shaped petals that surround yellow centers. The flowers bloom on thin, branched stems with dark green foliage, and the growth is so dense that while blooming, the flowers will be the only part of the plant that is visible.
Snowflakes Moss Phlox is a compact, upright perennial. This variety makes a wonderful ground cover, and the reaching stems trail naturally when planted in a raised bed or container. Plant in a rock garden for a soft texture between the hardscape or feature as a filler in a bed or mass planting. Grow this hardy plant as a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 8.
Snowflakes Moss Phlox Care
Don’t worry about the Snowflakes Moss Phlox melting because this plant thrives in full sun to part shade. Afternoon shade is preferred in warm climates. Moist, well-drained soil with high organic content is best. Let the top few inches of soil dry out before watering this perennial. Feed the Phlox using a balanced fertilizer during the early spring.
If left alone, the plant can become leggy. If a more manicured look is preferred, trim up to one-third of the growth after the flowers fade. Phlox is clump-forming, and this plant can be divided as needed every few years.
Snowflakes Moss Phlox Spacing
Snowflakes Moss Phlox will reach 3 to 6 inches tall and spread out 2 to 3 feet. Space this cultivar 2 to 3 feet apart for a continuous bed of flowering phlox across the garden.
