Growing Zones
This clump forming wetland rush reaches a height of 20 to 24 inches with a spread of 30 to 36 inches and produces inconspicuous tiny, yellow flowers above dark green, hollow, cylindrical foliage in summer.
Native to North America, this evergreen rush is a water lover that will do well growing in up to 6 inches of water making it an excellent choice for a boggy area, water garden or wetland. Rush is a common food source for small mammals and birds. Low maintenance and easy to grow, this rush is winter hardy in zones 2 to 9.
Soft Rush Grass Care
This perennial prefers wet and boggy areas with plenty of sun. It's easy to grow and can be divided to control spreading. Can be invasive in some areas of the United States if not controlled. May be cut down to water level in spring or cut back to a few inches above soil level in boggy areas.
Soft Rush Grass Spacing
Soft rush should be planted with a spacing of 1 to 2 feet between plants. Does well in wetland, boggy and moist areas. Good for a water garden or pond setting and would look wonderful planted in groups, as an accent plant, or grown in a pot or container provided it is given enough moisture.
