Even in the bleakest days of winter, Soft Serve® Gold False Cypress stands loud and proud. Chamaecyparis pisifera is a beautifully compact evergreen shrub that has a perfect Christmas tree shape. It is a spectacular yellow evergreen statue with year-round color. Its fern-like leaves are soft to the touch and attractive to all except deer. This slow-growing dwarf shrub only spans 6 to 10 feet in all directions which makes the perfect formal entryway spire.
It is hard to find a shrub that stays as well manicured and true to form as Chamaecyparis without the extra work. A native to Japan, this plant radiates wisdom and beauty picturesque of a zen garden. It is low maintenance and once established, it is quite drought tolerant . There are so many ways to admire its beauty. Use this plant to soften corners and create the illusion of flowing garden beds. Even try incorporating Soft Serve in large urns , string it with lights, and illuminate your front door.
Soft Serve® Gold False Cypress Care
Quite versatile, Soft Serve® Gold False Cypress can take varying degrees of full to part sun and neutral to slightly acidic soil. Ensure that the soil is moist, fertile, and well-draining for best results. Just plant and literally sit back and relax.
For most years, pruning is barely needed. Pruning is only necessary for broken, crossing, or misshapen branches. For the most part, this False Cypress naturally wants to stay conical compact in appearance.

Instead of investing in an expensive fence to block out neighbors or traffic why not plant a privacy screen? Planting a privacy screen tends to be much cheaper and visually more pleasing than a privacy fence. To create a privacy screen space Chamaecyparis in double rows that are staggered to help create a seamless hedge and fill in visual gaps. Plant each shrub 6 to 10 feet apart from each other.
