Sparky® Blue Clematis is one of the most diverse flowering vines around. This particular clematis is unique and one of a kind. Beautiful blue pinwheel blooms with a yellow brushstroke center will delight the most avid Clematis lovers. It is one of the earliest Spring blooming perennials around. Toothed foliage climbs heights of 72 to 96 inches where blooms can be admired overhead.
Enjoy its majestic presence growing along trellises, fences, or on decorative latticework. Design garden areas with different flowers in mind. Roses, hydrangea, and another early-blooming clematis will complement Sparky® Blue. Add a decorative trellis to a beautiful glazed container to make a stunning focal point. Not only will it bring beauty to your home, but it is reliably tough with disease resistance.
Sparky® Blue Clematis Care
Natural beauty only requires little to no maintenance. Full sun to a minimum of 6 hours sunlight is all these lovelies need. Clay soil can severely weaken or even kill clematis since clay can hinder root growth and be slow to drain. Before initially planting, amend clay soil with compost and topsoil. Apply 2 inches of mulch to keep roots moist and cool. This is particularly important in the Summer and Winter months.
This is a hardy vine that survives in zones 5 to 8. Sparky Blue is in pruning group 1. Which means there is not much to do in the way of pruning. Since this clematis blooms on old wood, it is optional to prune. If you do prune, then make sure to trim it before midsummer and no deadheading needed.
Sparky® Blue Clematis Spacing
When planting Clematis vines next to each other, train the vines in the direction you want them to climb. Space Clematis 2 to 3 feet apart from each other. Mix and match this early blooming Spring Clematis with some other mid to later blooming varieties. Enjoy 3 seasons’ worth of diversity. You won’t be disappointed.
