The Spintop™ Copper Sun Blanket Flower or Gaillardia is a vibrant bloomer that introduces bold color in a landscape. Fluted petals are narrow at the base and flare at the tips, creating a ruffled look. The petals gradually fade from red near the eye and transition to orange at the ends. The Spintop™ Copper Sun Blanket Flower blooms from late spring through late summer, putting on a magnificent floral display.
Gaillardia plants look amazing in a mass planting or as a groundcover, and they can add a pop of color to a border or container. The lovely blooms are eye-catching, and pollinators also favor them. This plant is easy to maintain and drought tolerant after the first season. Grow this beauty as a perennial in zones 3 through 9.
Spintop™ Copper Sun Blanket Flower Care
Blanket Flowers need full sun with at least 6 hours of direct light. Plant them in moist, well-drained soil. New plants need regular water for the first season, while established plants are drought tolerant. For best performance, water during a dry spell to support the bloom cycle. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in late spring and late summer.
Prune the plant back by one-third after the first flush of flowers starts to fade. A rejuvenating cut will encourage more growth and blooms.
