Beautiful 3-inch flowers in a deep purplish-burgundy grow on the sturdy stems of the Spring Celebrities Crimson Hollyhock. This classic beauty, also known as Alcea rosea annua, has wavy petals that provide vibrant color and texture to a landscape space. The flowers bloom in late spring and will continue to put on a show until midsummer. Tall stalks reach 3-feet tall and boast bright green foliage.  

This perennial is a mid-size plant that will do well in beds, borders, or mass plantings. Feature this stunner in the middle or front of a bed, so the blooms are on full display. The flowers can also be cut for display in a vase. Hollyhock is an adaptable plant that is a common sight in more traditional gardens. Grow this beauty as a perennial in USDA zones 6 through 8.

Spring Celebrities Crimson Hollyhock Care

Plant this flowering plant in full sun to partial shade. Find a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade when grown in warm climates. Loamy, well-draining soil is ideal. Hollyhock needs water when the top few inches of soil feel dry. 

Feed the plants using balanced fertilizer during the spring and switch to a high-phosphorus fertilizer with a ratio similar to 10-30-20 around June. After the blooms die back, trim the stalks to 6 inches in height and apply a layer of mulch to help the plant overwinter.

The Crimson Hollyhock is an upright perennial that will reach 24 to 36 inches tall. This beauty will spread 12 to 18 inches. Space plants 8 to 12 inches to create a lush planting.
