The bright, sunny yellow flowers of the Spring Fling® Forsythia are one of the first signs of the changing seasons. This shrub is a prolific bloomer, and each arching branch will be covered in flowers from base to tip during the early spring. This cultivar holds its blooms longer than other Forsythias, so you can thoroughly enjoy the bright flowers. The shrub transitions from sunny yellow to medium green when the leaves emerge as the flowers fade.
Feature the Spring Fling® Forsythia along the back of a mixed bed. As one of the first plants to bloom in the spring, this bush is a natural focal point early in the growing season, but provides a consistent green backdrop when everything else catches up. Use Spring Fling® to create a hedge or foundation planting and define different areas of a yard. Trim the stems to display the yellow flowers in a vase. Grow this Forsythia in zones 5 through 8.
Spring Fling® Forsythia Care
This shrub is not picky about soil quality as long as it is moist and promotes drainage. Full sun is necessary for this beauty to look its best. New plants need consistent water for the first growing season, while established shrubs are drought tolerant and only need water during a dry spell. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring.
The Spring Fling® Forsythia is a deciduous shrub with a naturally rounded and compact form. Remove dead or damaged growth as necessary, but pruning is not generally needed.
Spring Fling® Forsythia Spacing
At 5 to 6 feet tall and wide, the Spring Fling® Forsythia is a medium-sized shrub. Space shrubs 5 to 6 feet apart to create a hedge.
