Gardeners in search of a daylily with a soft color palette ought to explore the Stephanie Returns daylily. The four inch blooms on this plant have ruffled petals of a peachy pink color with a yellow throat, purple midribs, and reddish veining accented by a purple eye. Numerous flowers appear on each scape. The Stephanie Returns daylily boasts an earlier bloom time and a longer, nearly continuous bloom period than many other daylilies.
Like other daylilies, Stephanie Returns Daylily is exceptionally tough and easy to grow. Rabbits do not find it appealing and it tolerates salt, pollution, black walnuts, and some amount of shade. Use it as a mass planting to fill in a low-maintenance section of the yard. Stephanie Returns works well as a specimen or border plant along an edge. This daylily cultivar also performs well in container plantings.
Stephanie Returns Daylily Care
The Stephanie Returns grows well in sites with full or partial sun. It grows well in a range of soil types including poor soils or in areas exposed to salt or environmental pollution. Fertilize the plant annually in spring with a slow-release fertilizer to ensure vigor. It is fairly drought tolerant but plants that receive about an inch of water per week while growing and blooming will offer the best performance.
Cut off flower scapes back to ground level once all of the flowers on the scape have finished blooming to encourage reblooming. Once a freeze kills back foliage in the fall, prune the plant back to just above the soil line.
Stephanie Returns Daylily Spacing
This daylily cultivar reaches a height of about one and a half feet and a spread of up to two feet. For a mass planting, space plants twelve to eighteen inches apart. To keep individual plants recognizable, space them about two feet apart.
