Adored for its tall pink flower spikes, the Strawberry Foxglove will certainly make an impact when it flowers from June to July. Growing to around 3 to 4 feet high, this Digitalis mertonensis as it is also known is perfect for adding height and structure to your garden. From green mounds of foliage, it develops spires of pink spotted tubular blooms that are loved by pollinators.

Often used in an herbaceous border, this elegant perennial or biennial is also well suited to woodland locations and for naturalizing. Suitable for growing in zones 3 to 8, the Strawberry Foxglove is also deer resistant, which makes it a great specimen for rural locations. It will self-seed happily if allowed. Best grown in groups for maximum effect.

Strawberry Foxglove Care

The Strawberry Foxglove looks its best when grown in full sun to dappled shade. It prefers fertile and moist soil with good drainage. Frequent irrigation is required on planting and during the warmer months to prevent the soil from drying out. To encourage the best flowering spikes, you can enrich the soil with organic matter or apply a slow-release fertilizer in spring.

After flowering, the flower spikes can be left to produce seed heads and self-seed. Alternatively, you can cut back the flowering stems by three-quarters to encourage a second flush of shorter blooms.

Strawberry Foxglove Spacing

In the right conditions, the Strawberry Foxglove can reach 3 to 4 feet high and 2 feet across. When grown en masse, you can plant this foxglove at a spacing of 20 to 24 inches apart.
