The Sugar Cookie Viburnum has a wonderful, sweet fragrance when blooming. The added bonus of this plant, is the new foliage that looks like cinnamon on a snicker-doodle cookie! An upright but compact viburnum with multiple uses for the landscape makes this a plant that should be on the top of your list. The bush has flowers in early spring that are sweet smelling, and also attract birds and butterflies!
These plants are hard to kill due to being pest, disease & deer resistant. Native to North America, once these plants are established, there is hardly anything you need to do to enjoy these year after year. And because the plant is native, it is very beneficial to the local wildlife. This plant is also evergreen and the leaves turn red in the winter. Providing 12 months of interest in your garden! Cut some branches off to use these for cut flower arrangements and bouquets. Use these in mass plantings (can you imagine the fragrance?), or in a container to the entryway of your home. We’ve also seen people use these as a wind screen or as a natural privacy hedge instead of ugly stockade fencing.
Sugar Cookie Viburnum Care
Caring for Sugar Cookie Viburnum is easy. It prefers full sun to part shade with moist but well-draining soil. A light mulch is always helpful in hot climates. Fertilize in the spring with a slow release fertilizer for acid loving plants. Pruning Sugar Cookie Viburnum is only needed for broken or crossed branches. If you need to shorten the height or the width, trim immediately after the flowers fall off.
Sugar Cookie Viburnum Spacing
Can be used as a hedge, spacing it on 6 ft. centers, a little closer if using for a windscreen or put in a large container with drip holes. Add this to your mixed landscape and attract pollinators to complete your private getaway. Or just plant it so you can cut the flowers off and perfume your home.
