The Sugar Tip® Rose of Sharon Tree is a prolific bloomer with some spectacular foliage. Also known as Hibiscus syriacus 'America Irene Scott’, this small tree features blush pink flowers from spring through fall. The double blooms feature more than 40 petals per flower and have a feathery and dense texture. Each flower lasts for about one day, but the plant continuously blooms, smothering the branches with flowers during the bloom cycle. Bluish-green foliage has creamy white, irregular margins for added interest and dimension.
Feature the Sugar Tip® Rose of Sharon Tree as a focal point and add height to a mixed bed. Use it to create a lovely flowering privacy line or foundation planting. Container-grown plants look charming on a porch or framing an entryway door. Rose of Sharon shrubs are adaptable and tolerant, standing up to high temperatures and increased humidity without missing a beat. This plant is also deer and salt resistant. Grow the Sugar Tip® Rose of Sharon Tree in zones 5 through 8.
Sugar Tip® Rose of Sharon Tree Care
Plant this shrub in full sun. Rose of Sharon plants can comfortably live in most soil types, but they do best in rich, moist soil that is slightly acidic to neutral. The soil must promote drainage, as soggy conditions are damaging. New plants need consistent water, while established plants only need water when the soil is dry. The Sugar Tip® Rose of Sharon Tree is drought tolerant once established, but prolonged dry spells can reduce flower production, so water during a drought.
Prune to shape the plant in early spring. The flowers are sterile and do not produce seeds, so the plant does not self-seed.
Sugar Tip® Rose of Sharon Tree Spacing
Sugar Tip® Rose of Sharon Trees stands 5 to 6 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide. When planting several in a line, space plants 5 to 7 feet apart.
