Enjoy bold color and a tropical vibe when you plant the Summer Carnival Hibiscus. The large flowers are a deep and enticing red. The petals have a crinkled appearance, almost like crepe paper. Expect flowers from mid-summer into fall. The flowers fade after a few days, but this plant is a prolific bloomer. The lovely flowers will grab your attention, but the foliage adds a lot of visual interest. The dark green, deeply lobed leaves feature cream-colored edging with hints of pink.

Plant this Hibiscus in a bed, border, or mixed flowering hedge. This plant can easily be the focal point or included with other colorful plants to make a bold display. You won’t be the only one enamored with the flowers – bees and butterflies will frequent the blooms. Hibiscus is deer resistant, so this stunner will likely be left alone. This plant is generally low maintenance and grows as a perennial in zones 4 through 9.

Summer Carnival Hibiscus Care

This beauty likes lots of sun and water. Summer Carnival can live in partial sun but thrives in full sun. Be careful when watering because while this hibiscus likes a nice long drink, it does not like to be sitting in soggy soil. Plant it in rich, moist soil. Apply a slow-release fertilizer in the early spring and summer.

Wait for new growth to emerge before pruning. Trim back old branches to shape the plant. Create a bushier look by trimming branch tips in the early summer. In cold climates, apply a layer of mulch around the base of the plants for extra insulation.

Summer Carnival Hibiscus Spacing

The Summer Carnival Hibiscus has an upright growth habit and reaches 4 to 5 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide. Create a hedge by spacing plants 4 to 5 feet apart.
