For something rather unusual, but equally magnificent, why not try the Summerina® Sunchaser Echibeckia? Bred to combine the best characteristics of Echinacea and Rudbeckia, this Echibeckia features large yellow-and-orange petals around a brown central cone. Blooming from summer until fall, this perennial will add buckets of color wherever you decide to grow it. With a final size of around two feet, it won’t be difficult to squeeze into your landscape.
With its open centers, Summerina® Sunchaser Echibeckia is loved by pollinators and especially butterflies. As a compact plant, it is perfectly suited to growing in a container or planter but looks just as impressive when planted out in drifts in perennial borders. This echibeckia is drought tolerant once it has settled in and is suitable for growing in zones 7 to 9. Whether left in the garden or cut for a vase, its huge flowers look impressive.
Summerina® Sunchaser Echibeckia Care
For the Summerina® Sunchaser Echibeckia to really shine, it needs to be grown in full sun to partial shade. Although tolerant of most soil types, it prefers to be grown in free-draining soil. Once established, this perennial is tolerant of dry conditions, but will need to be watered frequently after planting and for the first growing season. To support production of its eye-catching flowers, a slow-release, balanced fertilizer can be applied in spring.
Deadhead the flowers as they begin to fade to encourage more blooms throughout the season. After the first frost of winter, the stems can be cut back to just above soil level to make way for new growth in spring.
Summerina® Sunchaser Echibeckia Spacing
The Summerina® Sunchaser Echibeckia can grow to 22-26 inches tall and 16-20 inches wide. When growing this plant as part of a group, it should be spaced 18 to 24 inches apart.
