Summerlong™ Magenta Agastache (Agastache mexicana ‘Balsumlmag’) dazzles with brilliant magenta blooms emerging from late spring through late summer. Clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers stand above fragrant, green foliage and attract curious hummingbirds and bees to your yard. Growing 16 to 22 inches tall and wide, this plant provides a neat, compact form that fits small spaces or container gardens. Hardy in zones 7a through 10b, it stands up to heat, drought, and sun, making it ideal for gardeners who want extended color with minimal care.
Native to warmer climates, Summerlong™ Magenta Agastache thrives in full sun and tolerates lean soil once established. This pollinator-friendly perennial adds vertical interest to mixed containers, border edges, and cottage-style gardens. Hummingbirds and bees feast on its nectar-filled blooms, while deer remain uninterested in this appealing plant. Whether you use it for mass planting or a single bold accent, Summerlong™ Magenta Agastache stands out with its richly hued blossoms and sweet scent.
Summerlong™ Magenta Agastache Care
Choose a sunny spot with at least six hours of direct sunlight and well-drained soil to ensure healthy growth. Water regularly in the first few weeks after planting, then reduce watering once the root system is established. Too much fertilizer may encourage leggy growth, so a light feeding in spring usually suffices. Slightly acidic to neutral soil pH is suitable for this plant, and mulching around the base helps preserve soil moisture. In containers, use a well-draining potting mix and monitor watering more closely, as potted plants dry out faster.
Clip faded flower stalks as they finish blooming to encourage additional waves of color. Light trimming in midsummer can maintain a tidy shape if desired. Thinning any weak or spindly stems allows for better air circulation and improved plant vigor. In zones 7a through 10b, most garden conditions are adequate for overwintering this hyssop without special protection. For potted specimens, consider moving them to a sheltered spot in extreme cold.
Summerlong™ Magenta Agastache Spacing
Space plants 14-16 inches apart in a mass planting to allow for airflow and prevent overcrowding. In containers, one plant typically fits a pot that’s at least 12 inches in diameter, giving the roots sufficient room. Larger containers may house additional companion plants, but ensure each occupant has enough space to expand.
