Sunburst St. John's Wort (Hypericum frondosum 'Sunburst') is a deciduous shrub grown in USDA zones 5-8. Sunburst St. John's Wort grows to a height of 2-3 feet tall and spreads to 3-4 feet wide. This plant flowers June through October with unique blooms reminiscent of fireworks. These sunshine-yellow flowers are contrasted by densely packed, greenish-blue foliage. Late in the summer, berries will appear when the blooms fade.

Sunburst St. John's Wort grows densely in an upright, mounded growth habit. It is fairly low maintenance and excellent for hedges. Sunburst St. John's Wort has some deer and rabbit resistance, and is drought tolerant when established.

Sunburst St. John's Wort Care

Sunburst St. John's Wort grows best in nutrient-rich, loamy soils but will tolerate most average, well-draining soil types. Avoid overwatering this plant; keep the soil moist but not soggy. For optimal growth, provide this shrub with at least 4-6 hours of sunlight daily.

Sunburst St. John's Wort benefits from annual pruning in late winter or early spring. Apply compost or a balanced fertilizer in early spring. Mulch the root zone to provide insulation over the winter.

Sunburst St. John's Wort Spacing

Sunburst St. John's Wort is good for smaller spaces and low hedges. Leave about 3-4 feet of space between plants.
